My 2000 L35 no longer shuts down with the key, I have to pull out the kill switch. Not really a problem or is it?
What does the kill switch physically do anyway?

I am new to this group, but if your kill switch works like most others it will kill all power to your machine.
BUT,,,,If the engine is not running and if the kill switch is in the non-kill position. You will have power going to all the places that it should not be going to unless the engine is RUNNING, because your ingnition will still be in the on position. I am not 100% positive on this, but I would get a new one installed ASAP. Or have someone who does know look at it before you fry something very exspensive. Good Luck ....

There is a shut down solenoid at or near the injector pump that shuts the fuel off at the pump when you turn off the key.
The solenoid could be bad or sticking. Could be a problem with the ignition switch itself.
I would check these things first and go from there.
Shutting the motor down manually will not hurt anything. ....

I had a similar problem where the engine would not shut off with the key. There is no manual shutoff on my tractor so I had to stall it by bringing the trottle down as low as possible and putting it in gear with the brake on. I know... not healthy, but it was that or let it run until it ran out of fuel. Later I found that an inline fuse had come loose from its holder. A little electricians tape and a few minutes of futzing with the wiring harness; let's just say that fuse is NOT coming out on it own ever again. ....

I am not sure about a L35, but I had the same problem on my L2850 and it was a bad shut off soliod and relay. When you turn the key to off the relay supplies power to the soliod for about 15 seconds. The soliod's job is to shut off the fuel to the egine. The kill switch/manual arm does the same thing by pushing on the same arm that the soliod pushs and hold shut for that 15 seconds. With the engine off, turn the key to on and then turn the key to off after a minute or so you should hear the soliod work. If you you do not hear anything, I would be tracing that electrical circuit or components. ....
